Thank you for choosing The Winchester Hotel and Spa. We would draw your attention to the following Terms and Conditions. By using the hotel you indicate that you are aware of, understand and accept all applicable Terms and Conditions without exception (irrespective of where your booking is received from).

Public area facilities

The hotel reserves the right to remove access to some or all of our public area facilities without notice.

Refusal of entry and/or use of the hotel

The hotel reserves the right at all times to (i) refuse entry to its premises or (ii) where entry has already been gained to insist the premises are vacated immediately by those customers and / or guests / associates of customers who it judges to be or have been in any way unreasonable, offensive or who have (or have the potential to) by their actions cause(d) disturbance, damage(d) the hotels premises and / or public image or put at risk in any way the safety and wellbeing of hotel staff and / or other members of the general public.     

Where such action is taken no compensation will be due to any party for any reason where the above is enforced.

The decision of the hotel in all cases is final.

All bookings

To check the validity of your credit card and guarantee your booking, the hotel reserves the right to temporarily hold an amount of £1 sterling prior to arrival.


A maximum of two guests are permitted to sleep in each bedroom.

Smart TV`s : Security and Data Protection

Where your bedroom or suite features a smart TV you are invited to enjoy the many extra viewing opportunities provided. However, please note that if you input any personal account details, pin numbers, passwords or other personal information into this TV, unless all such information is removed by you before you leave your bedroom, it could possibly enable anybody entering your room after you, to gain access to those applications which you have accessed and possibly to gain access into your personal data.

Please therefore be absolutely sure to delete any personal information you have entered (whatever its nature) before leaving your bedroom. For example, if you enter your NetfFlix account 'sign in' details to access the Netflix service, you must be absolutely sure to 'sign out' of your account - not to just simply exit the App. This is crucial for your data security. Please be advised that the hotel will not under any circumstances be responsible or liable to you in any way should you enter any information, whether you have signed out /deleted it or not.

Any decision by you to enter any information or details is done so entirely at your own risk.


Standard Cancellation Policy
("Book Now and Pay Later")

The hotel operates a 24 hour cancellation policy. In the event of non arrival or cancellations (for any reason) made after 2pm (local time) on the day prior to your arrival, a one night charge (per room cancelled) will be charged to your credit card. Additional cancellation charges may apply to different bookings guaranteed by the same credit card. We will consider more than three rooms with the same guarantee as a group and in which event, the hotel will contact you to inform you of the cancellation and payment terms Should you wish to change an existing reservation, you are required to cancel the existing booking and proceed to create a new reservation. Clients are advised to have their own insurance for cancellations due to force majeure including (but not restricted to) adverse weather, illness, travel disruption etc.

"Pre Pay and Save" Rates

Our Pre Pay and Save rates are fully prepaid at time of booking for the entire duration of your stay and full payment is taken on receipt of your booking. Should we be unable to process your card details to take this payment for any reason your reservation will be deemed invalid and a bedroom(s) will not be reserved for you. Whilst every effort will be made to advise you in this event it remains your responsibility to ensure that the hotel has been able to do so.

This pre-paid booking is not refundable under any circumstances

Should you wish to cancel your reservation please do so via whichever means you used to make the original booking. This will cancel your reservation but no refund will be given. The hotel reserves the right to resell any cancelled accommodation and no refund will be made to the original booker in the event that it is resold in whole or in part.

Should you fail to arrive at the hotel on the first night of your booking it will be automatically released at 9.00am the following morning for the remainder of your stay without refund.

Bookings made on the same day as the first day of your stay with us

The hotel will accept bookings made for a `same day` stay ONLY WHERE the guest uses the following methods of payment upon their arrival at the hotel and prior to check - in; a valid credit card for `chip and pin` preauthorisation (for an amount equal to the hotels prevailing preauthorisation policy) OR a valid debit card on to which the full cost of their stay can be charged (again `chip and pin` must be used) i.e. the guests pre-booked accommodation package multiplied by every night of their stay.

We regret that we will be unable to check in any guest who is unable to fulfil this criteria EVEN WHERE they have a confirmed booking. This includes all reservations made in person immediately prior to check in.

Inability to Accommodate

In the unlikely event that upon your arrival at the hotel, we are, for whatever reason, unable to provide you with the accommodation booked by you, we will, at our expense, transfer you to a suitable local hotel (single one way journey). If you have already prepaid for your stay at the Winchester Hotel and Spa, we will settle your accommodation charges direct with the other hotel.

If you have not prepaid for your stay at the Winchester Hotel and Spa, we will re-book you into the alternative hotel, where you will pay for your accommodation at the same rate as that confirmed for your booking at the Winchester Hotel. We will then settle any difference direct with the other hotel.


All Special Offers

All special offers for the hotel - wherever advertised - are subject to availability and may be withdrawn without notice.

All offers are based on two guests sharing a Classic Double or Twin bedroom unless otherwise stated. All prices shown include VAT at the prevailing rate and a £50.00 per room per night single supplement applies in all cases.

Where dinner is included in any offer this allows for a £25.00 per person food allowance from our Brasserie menu in the evening. Any purchases over that allowance will be charged for in full during your stay.

Terms specific to certain offers are below :


Heritage Package Offer

The hotel does not take any responsibility for facilities as listed in the package being closed (for any reason) on the day of your visit. Please note that entry to the Cathedral is - at the present time - free of charge on Sundays to all members of the public.


"That Friday Feeling" Offer

The offer includes one alcoholic or non alcoholic cocktail per guest to be selected from our cocktail menu. A cocktail may be exchanged for an alternative drink where the value of the alternative does not exceed £10.00 for that one drink. One cocktail may be exchanged for one drink and NOT an allowance for multiple drinks up to the total value of £10.00 per cocktail exchanged. Where a cheaper cocktail is selected there is no refund and the balance cannot be deducted from other purchases in the hotel.


"Let us buy you dinner"

Where this offer is selected the customer will book our "pay later best available B&B rate" and receive £25.00 per guest food allowance in Hutton`s Brasserie for each night of their stay on this offer.

Dining stamps / rewards offer

Any customer spending  15.00 on dinner food (after 18.00 hours) either in our Brasserie or Bar - will be entitled to one stamp on their reward card. Guests are limited to one stamp per evening. Guests will not be given multiple stamps each evening for purchases greater in value than £12.50 and guests may not receive stamps for purchases made or consumed by others.

Stamps / cards may be collected and / or redeemed from Monday - Thursday inclusive.

Rewards are claimed by submitting a card with either 3 or 6 completed stamps to your server. It is the guest's responsibility to ensure his/her card is stamped upon settling their bill. The hotel is unable to backdate any stamps following this. The hotel is unable to accept lost, mislaid or defaced cards. Reward stamps and / or cards are not exchangeable for cash and no cash alternative will be made in substitution of the rewards. The hotel reserves the right to amend or withdraw this offer without notice. Your statutory rights remain unaffected.

Cycle Policy

The hotel is always delighted to welcome guests with bicycles but please be advised that we are unable to accommodate or store any bicycles inside the hotel under any circumstances.   A limited outdoor cycle rack is provided in the hotel car park area and is available on a first come first served basis to persons visiting or staying at the hotel.Guests with bicycles will need to provide their own cycle locks and any use of the cycle rack provided is strictly on the basis that the hotel cannot accept ANY liability or responsibility for any loss or damage to any bicycle or related equipment, howsoever caused.

Check In/Check Out

Check in time is from 2.00pm Check out time is 11.00am.

Pet Policy

The Hotel accepts Assistance dogs, but does not accept Therapy dogs.

Child Policy

Access to the Health Cub and swimming pool is restricted to those aged 13 years and above (and Fitness Suite 16 years and above only).
Childrens meals are charged as taken at the published prices.

Please note that we are unable to allow children under the age of 12 to stay with guests in any of our Suites, and that we respectfully ask that all children under the age of ten years vacate the Brasserie by 8.00pm at the latest.

Payment Policy

All bookings must be guaranteed with a valid credit card at time of booking.

Please note that this is only taken to secure the booking. We are unable to use a third party credit card to settle a booking on departure even if it has been used to secure the booking. We require a card to be physically present in order for it to be used as a means of payment (in order that it can be chip and pinned on the premises).

All guests will be asked for a debit card / credit card (chip and pin) pre-authorisation upon check-in at the hotel. Where a pre-authorisation is taken full payment must be made upon departure either by cash or valid debit or credit card (which must be chip and pinned), unless a credit facility has been established in advance with the hotel.

Where such preauthorisation is not possible at check in, guests must first settle their account in full at check in, either in cash or with a valid debit/credit card (chip and pin), and will then be considered as a "cash only" guest and as such will be unable to charge items to their room account. The hotel does not accept cash only guests without a prior reservation.

In the case of AMEX cards, particularly (but not restricted to) those issued overseas, which must be `swiped` rather than chip and pinned the hotel reserves the right to check the validity of the card with the AMEX voice authorisation service and / or our Merchant. Cards which are not so authorised will not be accepted.

Please note that personal or Company cheques will not be accepted in payment of accounts unless prior arrangements have been agreed with the hotel. Also we do not accept Travellers Cheques.

Exchange rates (where shown) are for guidance only.

Additional charges will apply for excessive soiling in rooms, including vomit and for any damage as a result of negligence or vandalism.


The hotel cannot guarantee space availability in the hotel car park at any time and parking is available on a first come first served basis.

The hotel may withdraw or suspend its parking facilities at any time without notice. 

The hotel car park is strictly for the use of hotel guests and visitors and Health Club Members only.

All parking spaces (with the exception of those designated as being for use by Disabled Permit Holders or other authorised `Permit Holders`) are subject to the charges as prevailing from time to time and which are displayed at the entrance to the hotel car park.  These charges may be changed at any time without prior notice.

Vehicles must be parked in the defined limits of a single parking space.  

All vehicles parking in a space designated as being for use by either a `Disabled Permit Holder` or `Authorised Permit Holder` must clearly display an appropriate valid and current permit.

There will be no charge for vehicles arriving at and departing from the car park within 20 minutes.  Please note that for all stays beyond 20 minutes, the car parking charge will commence as from the initial arrival time at the car park.

To avoid further parking charges it is essential to remove that vehicle within 15 minutes of settling a parking charge.

Unless residing at the hotel (or by special prior arrangement with the hotel) parking in the hotel car park shall be limited to a maximum total of 7 days per stay in total. Vehicles remaining in the car park beyond this time will be subject to removal from the car park at the cost of the vehicles owner subject to the legal formalities applicable to such removal and without any liability attaching to the hotel.

All use of the hotel car park shall be entirely and absolutely at the users` risk and the hotel accepts no liability for any loss or damage to any vehicle, howsoever caused, including the removal by the hotel of any unauthorised or incorrectly parked vehicle from the car park.

Guests own food preparation / cooking in bedrooms and public areas

Any form of food preparation and / or cooking in bedrooms or public areas is strictly prohibited.   This includes (but is not restricted to) the use of toasters / sandwich toasters, microwave or any other type of oven, soup makers and / or crock-pots.  In addition kettles, whether provided by the hotel or not, may only be used for the purposes of boiling water to make hot beverages and not as a means of cooking / boiling other foodstuffs (whether in water or otherwise).

Gift Vouchers

If you have any queries concerning an order for and / or delivery of a hotel Voucher please contact our Sales office on 01962 709900.

Please allow up to five working days for delivery of your Voucher.

All Vouchers must be used within 12 months of purchase.

Holding a Voucher does not guarantee that your preferred booking time will be available and all hotel experiences must be booked in advance in the normal way.

All Vouchers are issued by The Winchester Hotel and Spa and whilst valid may be used in part / full payment against any goods and / or services at The Winchester Hotel and Spa (including bedroom accommodation, food and beverage and spa treatments or retail product) up to the face value of the Voucher. In the event that the Voucher is used as payment for any goods or services which total less than the face value of the Voucher, no monetary refund for the unspent balance will be made.

The Voucher has no cash value and can only be exchanged for goods and / or services at The Winchester Hotel and Spa up to the face value of the Voucher.

The Voucher will remain valid only up until the expiry date shown on the front of the Voucher, after which time the Voucher will not be accepted toward payment for any goods and / or services purchased at the hotel. The validity of the Voucher shall also be cancelled in the event that the Voucher is lost, defaced, incomplete or appears to have been in any way altered subsequent to being issued.

The Voucher may not be used for telephone, online or mail order purchases.

Where a booking is going to be paid for (in full or in part) by a Voucher, the customer may still be required to secure their booking with a credit card in the usual way. Such bookings will be subject to the hotel`s usual payment / cancellation terms. Only the original Voucher as issued can be accepted at time of payment. The hotel is unable to accept a Voucher reference number without the accompanying Voucher OR a copy of a Voucher as a means of payment.
